🕯️ FRIDAY: REMEMBERING GLENN COLVILLE JR.

This Friday at 7pm, join the family of Glenn Colville Jr. for a  ceremony in remembrance of his life.
This past April, Glenn was killed while biking by a driver who plowed through flexposts into the Aramingo Ave bike lane.

 

Meet us at 2717 Aramingo Ave for a Ghost Bike installation ceremony with brief remarks from Glenn's family, 5th Square Advocacy volunteer Mike Cunningham, and other supporters, followed by a 7.5 mile ride in Glenn's memory.

📣 MARKET EAST ENGAGEMENT

The Philadelphia Department of Planning & Development is seeking input and is holding an after-hours community night at their pop-up storefront.

After Hours Community Night
This Wednesday, August 12th, 6-8pm
My Market East Engagement Hub, 930 Market St

"My Market East" is a City-operated storefront where you can drop in and learn about the Market East Revival and share your vision for the future of Market East.

Can't make the event? The hub will be open every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12-6pm through August 28th.

🚶 SUPPORT PEDESTRIAN AND BIKE INFRASTRUCTURE

Attend the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission’s workshop on August 19th at 6pm to share feedback on proposed transportation planning projects.

The DVRPC makes important planning decisions for the region--this is a great opportunity to advocate for further bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure!

📆 CITY NERD IS COMING TO PHILLY

Save the date for Monday, September 28th: CityNerd is coming to Philly!
We'll be hosting Ray Delahanty for a talk on what Philly gets right and wrong on walkability, transit, and affordability.
The event will be emceed by 5th Square Advocacy Executive Director Corinne Lagermasini, with Roosevelt Blvd Subway advocate Dr. Jay Arzu as a special guest.

Transit advocates who have followed the redesign process say the first phase is less dramatic than earlier proposals that generated significant public concern.
“This phase is not going to be as disruptive,” said Jerrett Johnson , lead transit organizer and board member of the advocacy group 5th Square .

🏘️🚇  SUPPORT HOMES NEAR TRANSIT

Sign to show your support for more homes near transit! City Council passed a bill to increase housing near certain transit stations--we need your support to expand coverage to additional stations citywide.

 

🚲 LEGALIZE PARKING-PROTECTED BIKE LANES

Parking-protected bike lanes are a great way to make our bikes lanes safer and lower stress, but they are illegal on state roads! Sign the Bicycle Coalition's petition to legalize parking-protected bike lanes! And use this tool for a quick form letter to contact your representatives.

Transportation Initiative at Penn is hosting an event designed to connect transportation-focused public agencies with faculty and staff at the University of Pennsylvania to collaborate on applied research projects. Public agency staff are invited to give low-stakes, two-minute pitches on short-term, high-impact projects that could benefit from external expert support.
