A PHILADELPHIA FOR EVERYONE
5th Square Advocacy is a nonprofit organization working towards a more accessible, sustainable, and equitable Philadelphia and Pennsylvania.
Through grassroots organizing, we mobilize neighbors to advocate for people-centered communities.
At all levels of government, we fight for policies that promote
abundant housing,
safe roadways, and
accessible transit.
ABOUT US
OUR MISSION
At 5th Square, we believe that cities are for people - and people need infrastructure, transit, housing, and public space designed with equity and sustainability in mind. Rooted in grassroots action, we activate neighbors to drive policy, partner with communities, and hold decision-makers accountable so that Philadelphia becomes a city that works for all of us.
Since our founding, our mission has been to advance a vision of a more accessible, sustainable, and equitable Philadelphia. We build coalitions across neighborhoods, support meaningful reforms, and elevate the voices of people who are too often excluded from shaping our shared future.

OUR FOCUS AREAS
Where we’re driving change to make Philadelphia more accessible, sustainable, and equitable.

Better Public Transportation
Philadelphia suffers from longer commutes and more congestion than most large cities in the US. We believe the solution to these mobility problems lies in fast, affordable, accessible, and safe public transportation.

Safer Streets & Vibrant Public Spaces
Philadelphia currently gives far too much space to cars and prioritizes the convenience of drivers over the health and safety of everyone else. We advocate for roadway safety policies so that our streets and other public spaces are safe and accessible to all residents, regardless of race, age, gender, disability, or any other identity.

Homes of All Shapes & Sizes
Most people in Philadelphia can't afford a new home on the market today; and most of the iconic, affordable housing stock of Philadelphia would no longer be legal to build. We believe in building more housing and seek to reduce housing costs to foster accessible, walkable communities in which all Philadelphians can reside, regardless of income.
