The site on Broad and Race Street lies on top of an express subway stop, and benefits from proximity to Center City jobs, shops, and cultural amenities. Since the shuttering of Hahnemann in 2019, the site currently provides little value to Philadelphians or tax dollars to the City, despite its central location.
By supporting a mix of homes and shops on this site, we can:
Protect neighbors from rising costs: More available homes give renters and homebuyers more leverage and power, protecting local families from being forced to move farther away
Grow transit ridership: Given its proximity to transit, housing here supports SEPTA with additional consistent riders
Support local workers and businesses: Allowing more home choices near jobs makes our city more affordable for local workers and increases customers for local businesses.
