5th Square Advocacy Calls on Gov. Shapiro to Fund Better Stadium Transit
PHILADELPHIA, PA—Today’s announcement from Governor Shapiro spending $30 million in state funds for Stadium District roadways is a major disappointment when SEPTA is still facing a long-term funding crisis.
“The most effective way to manage congestion at the Stadium District is to
encourage spectators to take SEPTA instead, using existing park & rides with a parking/transit pass included with one’s venue ticket,” said Alex Milone, Transit Committee Co-Chair for 5th Square Advocacy. "Waiting in traffic and paying for expensive parking does not have to be the default game experience. We hope the Governor will keep his word and take traffic safety seriously with the corridor plan, as well as work with SEPTA to fund service and capital improvements to encourage travel to the game without driving."
“We already have the infrastructure to move thousands of fans in a fast, affordable, safe, and fun way—but Philadelphians need the funding support of our Commonwealth to support that,” said Alex.

SEPTA's Fern Rock Transit Center hosts ample parking spaces and connects with three Regional Rail lines. Park & rides like this can help spread out stadium-bound traffic, especially if spectators were incentivized with a parking & transit fare bundled with their venue ticket.
